Description

Jupiter and its largest moon Ganymede captured on the morning of August 24th from Singapore under very good seeing conditions (9/10). I took images of Jupiter and Ganymede in two consecutive sessions as Ganymede was initially further apart than as displayed in this image. I then pasted Ganymede a bit closer to Jupiter, while still respecting the relative Jovian latitude, to make it easier to display both the planet and its moon together in a single image. Jupiter and Ganymede show a lot of details. Jupiter had an apparent diameter of almost 48" as it was approaching opposition, while the apparent diameter of Ganymede was only 1.6".

Three sets 5 x 60" X RGB filters (total of 15 x 60" videos) were derotated and combined for Jupiter while Ganymede is a (B)RGB composition of 10,000 frames per each RGB filter.
